This course gives clinicians the opportunity to understand the physiological consequences to the body as hormones decline so they can assist their patients in lifestyle habits for successful aging.

Your patients are moving through the menopause transition whether or not it ever comes up in the clinic, and its effects reach into nearly every body system rehab professionals treat. In this free introductory webinar, Herman & Wallace faculty member Christine Stewart, PT, CMPT, gives rehab professionals a clear, approachable overview of what the menopause transition is, the symptoms patients experience, and why this stage of life belongs on your radar no matter your specialty. No pelvic health background is required. Bring your questions for the live discussion.
Menopause is having a cultural moment. What used to be a private, often unspoken experience is now part of everyday conversation, and patients are bringing those questions into rehab settings of every kind. Many clinicians, however, were never taught what the menopause transition actually involves or how widely it shapes the way patients move, sleep, heal, and feel. This webinar is an open door. In one focused session, Christine Stewart, PT, CMPT, gives rehab professionals the foundational understanding to recognize the transition, respond with empathy, and know when to point patients toward the right resources.
What the webinar covers
Christine introduces the full arc of the menopause transition, from perimenopause through postmenopause, and the changing hormonal profile behind it. You will get a plain language overview of the symptoms patients commonly experience, including musculoskeletal pain and joint changes, bone density and fracture risk, sleep disruption, mood, and the genitourinary and pelvic floor changes that affect quality of life. The session connects each of these to the broader work rehab professionals already do, so you can see where your care intersects with this stage of life.
Who should attend
This introduction is built for physical therapists, occupational therapists, physical therapist assistants, occupational therapist assistants, nurses, and other rehabilitation professionals who want a foundation in menopause care. No prior pelvic health training is needed. Whether menopause is brand new to you or something you would like to understand more fully, you will leave with a framework you can apply across your caseload.
Why it matters for every rehab professional
In a survey of postgraduate trainees in internal medicine, family medicine, and obstetrics and gynecology, ninety percent felt unprepared to manage patients experiencing menopause (Reid, 2021). Patients feel that gap, and they often arrive uncertain and looking for answers. As rehab professionals, we are positioned to fill part of that gap through education and skilled care. By understanding the transition and calming patients' fears, we can ease their burden during a significant period of adaptation and help them stay strong and active through it.
