The purpose of this two-day continuing education course is to help therapists understand, evaluate, and treat patients with interstitial cystitis (IC). Material will include background information on the complex condition, the most effective therapy techniques for patients, options for medical management to complement physical therapy, and how to develop a holistic treatment plan and unique self-care regimen for your patients. Topics will include symptoms of IC, including suprapubic pelvic pain, urinary urgency and frequency, nocturia, painful Intercourse, orthopedic pelvic pain and incontinence. There will also be discussion of conditions associated with IC, including Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, and Asthma and Allergies. This course will instruct in the accurate diagnosis of IC in women and men, and ways to rule out commonly confused conditions like Chronic Prostatitis and UTI.Labs will include internal and external treatment techniques, therapeutic exercise and home care instruction. The course will close with a lectures and group brainstorming on marketing, building a multidisciplinary team and reaching out to other practitioners.

This continuing education seminar is targeted to physical therapists, occupational therapists, physical therapist assistants, occupational therapist assistants, registered nurses, nurse midwives, and other rehabilitation professionals. Content is not intended for use outside the scope of the learner's license or regulation. Physical therapy continuing education courses should not be taken by individuals who are not licensed or otherwise regulated, except, as they are involved in a specific plan of care.

Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to:

1. Understand the anatomy and physiology of the genitourinary system and pelvic floor as they relate to IC.

2. Perform internal and external manual physical therapy techniques specific to treating common IC symptoms, including myofascial release, visceral mobilization, and trigger point release.

3. Implement a treatment plan and self-care program for a complex patient with IC.

4. Understand the medical management of the condition and how it can complement PT, including how to work with other practitioners to create a holistic treatment program.

5. Employ tools to market your practice to patients with interstitial cystitis.

Nicole Cozean

Nicole Cozean, PT, DPT, WCS, CSCS is one of fewer than 300 board-certified pelvic physical therapists in the country and the founder of the PelvicSanity clinic, online resources, and blog. Group Discount

Student Discount

This 10% discount is available to current students who have yet to earn a license to practice at the time of course registration. This discount is not available to those therapists who have previously held a license, and are currently enrolled in a doctoral, or other post-graduate, program. This discount cannot be used in combination with any other discounts.

First-Time Registrant Discount

This $50.00 discount is available to any therapist that has never taken a Herman & Wallace course. This discount may be used towards a registrant's first Herman & Wallace course (not applicable to Pelvic Floor Level 1/2A/2B or Capstone).


Referral Credit/Discount

Any therapist who has already taken a Herman & Wallace course will earn a $50.00 "referral credit" if:

1. A therapist who has never taken a Herman & Wallace course successfully registers for his or her first course(s); AND
2. In the registration process, the first-time registrant gives the name and clinic/hospital of the therapist who referred them to Herman & Wallace.

Guest Blogger Credit/Discount

JTA Survey Credit/Discount
