Founders and Faculty > Martina Hauptmann, PT, PMA-CPI
Martina Hauptmann is a physical therapist, Pilates instructor, inventor and entrepreneur.
Her interest in the human body began at an early age. Martina was a competitive gymnast from the age of seven until eighteen. During that time she began to also coach gymnastics and saw that skill development required the appropriate flexibility, strength, timing and then of course practice, practice, practice.
These years of gymnastics training lead her to becoming a massage therapist (Michigan Institute of Myomassology, 1992), physical therapist (Wayne State University: Detroit, MI 1995), manual lymph drainage therapist (Vodder Institute, 1997) and Pilates instructor/ instructor trainer (STOTT PILATES, 2005/2007).
Martina's practice in physical therapy has been in inpatient acute, inpatient rehabilitation and outpatient rehabilitation. She has worked as a staff physical therapist in the Henry Ford Health System, senior physical therapist in the Detroit Medical Center System, Pilates instructor and instructor trainer at Equilibrium Pilates Studio, instructor trainer for STOTT PILATES Denver Training Center, physical therapist and Pilates instructor at North Boulder Physical Therapy and Pilates.
These varied settings have given Martina an insight that no matter what your level of health or fitness it is necessary to move. With her extensive training in Pilates she discovered that precise movements carried out with intention and purpose brings much quicker results. Pilates is sometimes viewed as an elite form of exercise but Pilates exercises can be as simple or as complex as the client can handle.
With a desire to bring the benefits of Pilates to more people, Martina has invented the patented Hooked on Pilates MINIMAX and the Hooked on Pilates HANDIBAND. With these two pieces of equipment, an individual is able to mimic three different pieces of Pilates equipment which are typically found in a Pilates studio. When you are done working out you can hang the Hooked on Pilates equipment on a hook! Martina frequently blogs on health and fitness issues on her website www.hookedonpilates.com and also on Herman & Wallace's website.
