Lauren Mansell - Featured Certified Pelvic Rehabilitation Practitioner

In our weekly feature section, Pelvic Rehab Report is proud to present this interview with newly certified practitioner Lauren Mansell DPT, CYT, PRPC

Lauren Mansell

If you could get a message out to physical therapists about pelvic rehabilitation what would it be?

Know what questions to ask in order to refer patients to us for treatment. Our patients often feel alone, are frustrated with medical treatments, and feel like no one can address their symptoms. Pelvic rehab specialists are orthopedic specialists. Try and see our similarities rather than differences.

How did you get involved in the pelvic rehabilitation field?

I was ‘supposed’ to put children on horses for therapy (hippotherapy or equine-assisted therapy)…until I had my second clinical internship at a women’s health center. My CI told me I was going to be a pelvic rehab specialist and I didn’t believe her. She won.

Describe your clinical practice:

Mainly pelvic rehab, some general ortho in outpatient hospital setting in a rural setting 45 miles south of Chicago. I also teach Yoga and Pilates for the hospital fitness center. I am a certified lymphedema therapist and certified in hippotherapy. I was a volunteer emergency room medical and legal advocate for sexual assault survivors for over 10 years. Empowering survivors carried over to empowering patients.
My practice is person-focused and evidenced based. My background is in psychology and sociology, which incorporates well within pelvic rehab. I love to teach, both as adjunct faculty for third year DPT students and as a clinical instructor.

What motivated you to earn PRPC?

I love that the certification focuses on pelvic rehab and not ‘women’s health’ exclusively. Men also suffer and need to feel comfortable seeking services.

What makes you the most proud to have earned PRPC?

It helps increase patients’ confidence and trust to know I am specialized. I enjoyed studying the material for the exam.
