Pediatrics

Pediatrics is the branch of medicine that specializes in infant, child, and adolescent care. The target age group for pediatrics generally ranges from 0-18 years and encompasses the physiological, mental, social, and emotional conditions of the child. The pelvic rehabilitation therapist is able to play an important role in the health and wellness of this patient population.

Many children suffer from forms of incontinence or pelvic floor dysfunction, and this is patient demographic requires a unique approach from rehabilitation professionals. One of the most common forms of incontinence in pediatrics is nocturnal enuresis, commonly known as bedwetting. Enuresis can be caused by many factors including underdevelopment of the bladder and reduced awareness of the need to urinate. The pelvic therapist who is equipped to address these issues will be an essential part of any pediatric patient's care team.
