This remote two-day course, developed by Sara Meeks, presents an innovative, effective, S.A.F.E. (Skeletally Appropriate For Everyone), site-specific comprehensive program for management of patients with osteoporosis, osteopenia, and postural problems. The program is also useful for spinal stenosis and back pain. The course includes three hours of prerecorded content sent prior to the live meeting, which covers anatomy as it pertains to osteoporosis, bone basics, and an introduction to the Meeks Method. During the live, remote course, the instructor will discuss how to perform a complete patient assessment, site-specific exercise program, postural correction, balance, and gait training. In addition, body mechanics during activities of daily living, use of foam rollers for balance and core strengthening, scapular stabilization exercises with resistance bands, information on use of treatment modalities as they pertain to osteoporosis, and guidelines for advanced exercises (e.g., in the gym, Yoga, Pilates etc.) are included.

Audience:

This course is targeted to physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, occupational therapists, certified occupational therapist assistants, other medical and degreed exercise professionals, as well as Yoga and Pilates teachers.

What to bring:

This remote course will include exercises that participants wil do along wiht the instructor demoing on the screen. Items needed for the course:

1. 1 Bath Towel and 2 hand towels

2. 1 wash cloth

3. Yoga mat

4. Foam roller if available. Otherwise a thick beach or bath towel will suffice

5. Chair without arms

6. Dowel rod- could be broom handle, cane, dowel rod from hardware store

7. Resistance band- light resistance such as a yellow or red T-band

8. Chair without arms

9. Room to move around. Ideally at least 10X10 room.

If possible, please also have:

1. Full length mirror for postural feedback

This will allow you reference the pictures when you are down on the floor. Or if you have a second computer (laptop) you could also follow along on that to reference the manual.
