This continuing education course is taught by Allyson Shrikhande, a board-certified Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation specialist, and provides an overview of the core elements for a successful relationship between pelvic floor therapy and pelvic physiatry for non-operative management of patients with Chronic Pelvic Pain (CPPS). Topics will include diagnosis and non-operative treatment options for CPPS from the physiatrist perspective, including a non-operative functional and restorative treatment approach, neuroplasticity, resetting and retraining dysfunctional nerve firing patterns, releasing hypertonic pelvic floor myofascial nerve constriction, and neuromuscular re-education. The course will also cover a review of medications, joint injections, and interventional spine procedures.T his course aims to describe the synergistic nature of pelvic physiatry with pelvic floor therapy, in hopes of promoting collaboration for the care of patients of all genders with chronic pelvic pain.
