Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to:

  1. List and describe several meditation techniques and which techniques are effective with different patient types
  2. Demonstrate manual techniques for facilitating autonomic down training
  3. Discuss neuroscience of pain and effects of meditation
  4. Describe the current concepts of chronic pain neurophysiology
  5. Discuss the contributing role of trauma and stress to persistent pain
  6. Discuss the evidence for the cognitive and emotional modulation of pain
  7. Explain pain and stress-induced hyperalgesia to patients with simple language.
  8. Practice techniques to center and stay grounded at work with detached compassion
  9. Understand and develop strategies to prevent burnout
  10. Instruct a patient in the basic qualities of meditation
  11. Understand and implement healthy boundary setting
  12. Experience the benefits of breath, exercise and movement on mood
  13. Experience essential oils and their potential role in self-care and patient care
  14. Incorporate these techniques into their current model of treatment and reimbursement
