Upon completion of this continuing education seminar, participants will be able to:

  • 1. Define dysfunctional labor and describe related birthing complications.
  • 2. Describe fertility and various conditions that can affect a person’s fertility and reproduction.
  • 3. Describe common gynecological surgeries and medical treatment related to reproduction and pregnancy.
  • 4. Define high-risk pregnancy and related diagnoses.
  • 5. Differentiate amongst different birth locations and attendants, and their effects on birthing outcomes.
  • 6. Safely provide examination, evaluation, and intervention for the patient on a high-risk pregnancy activity restriction.
  • 7. Provide differential diagnosis between high-risk pregnancy and musculoskeletal diagnoses.
  • 8. Identify resources for pregnancy and parenting with disabilities.
  • 9. Describe various cultural implications and beliefs related to labor, birth, and postpartum.
  • 10. Safely provide examination, evaluation, and intervention for acutely postpartum patients.
  • 11. Describe the effects of a patient’s prior abuse experience on pregnancy, birth, and parenting.
  • 12. Safely prescribe or modify an exercise routine for a pregnant patient.
  • 13. Identify contraindications and precautions for beginning or continuing an exercise routine during pregnancy.
