Pelvic Function Level 2B

Course Description

Pelvic Function Level 2B (PF2B) is an intermediate-level course which covers evaluation and treatment of urologic, gynecologic, and oncologic conditions as well as an overview of medical management and multi-disciplinary pelvic healthcare. This course is intended for the pelvic health clinician who treats patients with conditions including urinary incontinence, prostate cancer, and pelvic organ prolapse. Participants will understand how diagnoses such as interstitial cystitis/painful bladder syndrome (IC/PBS), urinary tract infections, benign prostatic hyperplasia, and erectile dysfunction related to prostate cancer may be improved with pelvic rehabilitation. Surgeries of the urological and reproductive tracts, their potential side effects, and appropriate treatment planning for these patients will be discussed. This course was designed as a progression of knowledge and skills learned in the foundational course of our Pelvic Function Series: Pelvic Function Level 1: Introduction to Pelvic Health; and Pelvic Function Level 2A: Colorectal Pelvic Health, Pudendal Neuralgia, and Coccyx Pain. The information contained in this course is immediately applicable to clinical practice.

Practical, trauma aware, hands-on labs will include external abdominal and pelvic approaches as well as internal vaginal and anal techniques. Labs will focus on pelvic structures in relationship to their supportive and urologic functions, and surrounding structures such as the abdominal myofascial, urachus, and inguinal canal. Interventions instructed will include patient management of trunk and pelvic pressure, specific pelvic floor muscle strength training, breathing, and manual therapies for a variety of pelvic dysfunctions.
