Dr. Nieto is an individual, couple, and family counselor. She has a master’s in human development (1981) and an earned a doctorate in psychology (1986). Dr. Nieto has been teaching since 1981 and joined the MAC program in 1989. She is a nationally approved supervisor through AAMFT. She earned her Trainer, Educator and Practitioner of Psychodrama credential in 2018.
Dr. Nieto's areas of focus are: anti-oppression, expressive art therapies, Playback Theatre, and Appreciative Inquiry. Her book Beyond Inclusion, Beyond Empowerment: A Developmental Strategy to Liberate Everyone (2010), is an accessible analysis of the psychological dynamics of oppression and privilege that offers readers ways to develop skills to promote social justice.
Nieto was named Outstanding Faculty of the Year in 2005. She is also a member of the faculty of the European School of Classical Psychodrama in Mexico, and loves to sing.
In addition to her degrees in clinical psychology and human development, she is skilled in Action Methods, including Playback Theater and Theater of the Oppressed. She is a Professor in the Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology program at Saint Martin's University.

Addressing fears of cis-women treating cis-men in the field of pelvic health

Some cis-women express concerns about treating cis-men with pelvic dysfunction in a private (closed-door) clinical setting. These concerns range from not feeling comfortable discussing sensitive topics such as sexual function to feeling unsafe from potential personal harm. If we as a profession ignore this issue, we may continue to face a lack of available providers willing to work with cis-men due to the pelvic health field being largely populated by women. Men who come into clinics in which there is discomfort in the therapeutic relationship may also experience harm in several ways. Feeling denied comprehensive care, or being incorrectly accused of being inappropriate are examples of such harm. It is the goal of this class to create an environment in which we can subjectively and objectively address these issues. Join Holly Tanner and Leticia Nieto for an open dialogue about these topics in an upcoming course. Holly Tanner brings more than two decades of care to men with pelvic dysfunction as well as instruction to many therapists in coursework in which these topics come to light. Leticia Nieto is an educator and author with a Psy.D in psychology who lectures on topics of oppression, social justice, and cultural studies. Her book, Beyond Inclusion, Beyond Empowerment: A Developmental Strategy to Liberate Everyone.

Holly Tanner, PT, DPT, MA, OCS, WCS, PRPC, LMP, BCB-PMB, CCI was born and raised in Duluth, Minnesota. At Herman & Wallace, Holly is a faculty member and the Director of Education. She owns a private practice that focuses on pelvic rehabilitation and on chronic myofascial pain. She graduated from the College of St. Scholastica in 1995 with a Masters of Arts degree in Physical Therapy and in 2013 she completed a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. She is also a licensed massage practitioner, licensed in Washington since 2003. Prior experience includes working for Apple Physical Therapy where she developed and directed the Women's and Men's Health programs for the company’s many clinics. She is Board-certified in Orthopedics, Women's Health, and is also certified in Pelvic Rehabilitation and in Pelvic Muscle Dysfunction Biofeedback. Holly served as adjunct faculty at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA, and at the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, MN, for whom she continues to teach in the transitional DPT program. Along with H&W faculty member Stacey Futterman she co-authored the "Male Pelvic Floor Function, Dysfunction, and Treatment" course. She is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association and the American Massage Therapy Association. Her physical therapy and massage practice, Flow Rehab, is located in the Fremont neighborhood of Seattle.

Student Discount
