Cindy Washeck, PT, BA, MSPT, DPT, FAAOMPT, started practicing physical therapy in 2000 in her home state of Delaware but soon moved to Nashville, TN, where she was introduced to manual therapy. In 2003, she started working for one of the original instructors for the Ola Grimsby Institute (OGI) and immersed herself in post-graduate studies. She completed her doctorate of manual therapy in 2004 and became a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists in 2005. She left Nashville to work in Naperville, IL, and then moved to Seattle in 2007 to work for MTI (Manual Therapy International). She then completed a residency in Scientific Therapeutic Exercise Progression (STEP). Giving birth naturally to 2 children sparked Cindy’s interest in pelvic floor rehabilitation, and she has been able to apply the concepts to nearly every post-partum patient as well as lumbar patient, both male and female. She now works part time in a private practice clinic co-owned by her husband in O’Fallon, Missouri. She has put her Bachelor’s degree in English from James Madison University to good use writing practice test questions for the National Physical Therapy Exam, editing online continuing education courses, and writing articles on a variety of physical therapy subjects. Cindy has been a clinical instructor for physical therapy students as well as manual therapy residency and fellowship students, and she is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association and the Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists.
Reema has been a practicing Physical Therapist in Manhattan since 2011, specializing in orthopedics and vestibular rehabilitation. Reema is currently pursuing further training in order to become a certified Pelvic Rehabilitation Practitioner.

Mitch Owens MSPT, COMT, instructor of Neck Pain, Headaches, Dizziness, and Vertigo: Integrating Vestibular and Orthopedic Treatment, has been practicing physical therapy in Seattle since 2004. In addition to his masters degree he has two advance therapy certifications, a broad clinical background, and a passion for the practice of physical therapy. In 2007 he completed a competency certification in Vestibular Rehabilitation from Emory University and the American Physical Therapy Association. In 2014 he demonstrated advanced competency in orthopedic manual therapy and earned the credentials Certified Orthopedic Manipulative Therapist (COMT) from the North American Institute of Orthopedic Manual Therapy (NAIOMT) based out of British Columbia.
Mitch’s practice is focused on the treatment of orthopedic pain issues and vestibular dysfunction, but he began his career working with patients with neurological injuries at Evergreen Hospital’s Rehabilitation Unit and outpatient Neuroscience program. Mitch then went onto work with Carrie Hall at Movement Systems PT. Mitch started Union PT in September of 2010.
Mitch believes in balancing an active approach to rehabilitation with techniques that will promote healing and recovery. He strives to ensure that his patients understand their issues and that they have tools in place so they can remain healthy and active independently long after their treatment.
In addition to his practice Mitch teaches continuing education courses for practicing physical therapist on Cervicogenic Dizziness/Headache, as well as Shoulder Dysfunction.

Price: $475 (Early Registrant Price $450)
Experience Level: Beginner
Contact Hours: 15Pain is a perception engaging sensory, cognitive and emotional processes. Beliefs, expectations, fear, catastrophizing, childhood stress and trauma, and learning and memory can all modulate a patient’s pain experience. In addition, structural and functional brain changes have been identified in patients with persistent pain that may play a significant role in driving pain chronicity. This multifaceted nature of pain perception requires an equally multifaceted skill set to effectively address the therapeutic needs of patients experiencing pain.
A growing body of medical literature suggests mindfulness training is a treatment strategy that can help address the complexities of pain. Mindfulness training has been shown to reduce pain intensity and unpleasantness, decrease depression and anxiety and improve function and quality of life in patients with persistent pain. These improvements may occur through such means as improved body awareness, stress and emotional regulation, attention control and changes in perspective. In addition, mindfulness training contributes to neuroplastic brain changes including increases in prefrontal cortex and hippocampal activity and decreases in amygdala activity. Such changes can potentially help mitigate neurotoxic effects of stress in these chronic pain-associated brain regions.
This 2-day course provides you with practical, evidence-based treatment strategies to promote your patients’ abilities to self-regulate the stress reaction and self-manage pain. You will learn the science of mindfulness and pain and gain insight into how cognition, emotion and stress impact pain perception. You will practice mindful meditation, body scan and movement and learn skills to apply mindful awareness to teaching patients breathing, body awareness, exercise and the self-regulation of reactions to stress and pain. Experiential exercises help you personally experience the transformative power of mindful awareness. You will return to your clinic with the ability to explain the benefits of mindful awareness to your patients and teach mindfulness-based skills for pain relief that can help both prevent and treat chronic pain conditions. You will be able to draw on mindful listening skills to enhance your therapeutic alliance with your patients. In addition, you will learn mindful self-care practices to avoid burn-out and promote your own well-being.

Contact Hours: 15Pain is a perception engaging sensory, cognitive and emotional processes.

Contact Hours: 15Acetabular labral tears are reported to be a major cause of hip dysfunction in young to middle-age patients and a primary precursor to hip osteoarthritis. The management of hip injuries in the athletic population "...has rapidly evolved over the past decade with our improved understanding of mechanical hip pathology." (Lynch et al., 2013) Medical and rehabilitation differential diagnosis of the hip involves many options such as labral tear, femoroactebular impingement (FAI), hip capsular laxity/instability, chondral lesions, septic joint or loose body in the joint. New technology allows improved identification of tears and arthroscopic surgical repairs, yet time of injury to diagnosis is still often delayed, making long-term prognosis for hip preservation poor. The risks of arthroscopic surgery, which, according to the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, are equal to complication rates of open hip surgeries (Arthroscopy, 2013), coupled with the lack of long term follow up studies for arthroscopic procedures, makes conservative therapy a valuable tool. This 2-day continuing education course presents a holistic methodology for the recommended trials of conservative therapy covered in current literature.
This course will give special attention to identification of differential diagnosis of specific tissues of the hip joint for identification of intra-articular damage or premature joint degeneration. The participant will be able to recognize high-risk populations, common musculoskeletal presentation of patients with hip dysfunction, and how to instruct in optimal recruitment patterns for prevention of long-range debility. Secondary and differential diagnoses of the hip and pelvis will be addressed in order to help the clinician understand how conventional and integrative therapies can be used in combination to provide better outcomes. Hip labrum injury will be addressed in the following clinical categories: injury prevention and wellness, clinical evaluation and diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation, and organizational and professional health and well-being.
Current surgical methods will also be addressed in this continuing education course in order to provide the clinician with a well-rounded background in the management of labral injuries and related secondary lesions. Therapists in increasing numbers are working with patients who have hip labral injuries prior to and following hip arthroscopic and open surgeries. Utilizing a case study framework, this course will provide you with the opportunity to analyze the evaluation and intervention of the most current methods.

Course Title
The Voice and the Pelvic Floor: An Integrative “3D” (Three Diaphragm) Approach
Course Description
This short-format remote course will introduce you to foundational concepts needed to be able to use vocal techniques to treat the pelvic floor and core. The course includes several hours of didactic information followed by interactive lab activities conducted via Zoom.
The respiratory diaphragm has long been linked to pelvic floor health and functioning, but the voice has not. That is now rapidly changing as research emerges to link all three diaphragms, not just physiologically, but from a neuropsychological lens. Singing is a sport, but one needn't to be able to sing to access the power of the voice in pelvic floor therapy. Phonation and vocalization are ideal, alternate but essential pathways to treating pelvic floor dysfunction and promoting pelvic floor health. In fact, perhaps the most critical part of your own success as a therapist depends on your voice, so this course will benefit you in two ways: 1) Teaching you how to find your voice and use it as a therapeutic modality – effectively, safely, and efficiently. 2) Teaching you how to use vocal interventions to impact not just pelvic, but overall health and well-being.

You can tell a lot about your patient just from listening to their voice. This short-format remote course will introduce you to foundational concepts needed to be able to use vocal techniques to treat the pelvic floor and core. The course includes four hours of didactic information followed by a two-hours of interactive lab activities conducted via Zoom.
Additionally, accessing the voice must be trauma-sensitive and COVID-informed. This course will provide the learner with an evidence-based trauma-informed approach that will help you better manage COVID-19 survivor cases who may present to you with pelvic floor dysfunction, as well as be more prepared to handle cases where a patient may have comorbidities such as a history of PTSD or other mental health issues, sexual abuse, and/or birth trauma.
Getting in touch with the power of your own voice also has the potential to improve your effectiveness and confidence as a clinician, improve your own self-care, and nurture your public speaking abilities as a leader in your field. Join Dr. Ginger Garner for an introduction to finding and harnessing the power of the voice for pelvic health.

Contact Hours: 16Current standards of practice in maternal care have been cited as “a human rights failure” in the US1. Not due to the lack of medical services but the overuse of medical interventions during birth,2,3,4 hospitals that have “reduced medical interventions” and have improved “access to woman-centered care have fewer deaths and lower health care costs”1,3,4
Enter yoga as an ideal paradigm for “woman-centered care” that minimizes the need for technocratic birth, the medicalization of pregnancy and birth as a pathology rather than a natural condition. Patient satisfaction and self-confidence, which also suffers under the current biomedical model, is likewise improved by the self-care and self-empowerment emphasis of yogic medicine and its philosophy.
Yoga as a contemplative science and practice is a burgeoning field whose evidence-base is fast growing. This course combines pelvic rehabilitation and yoga in order to optimize childbirth outcomes and postpartum rehabilitation.
Yoga offers an evolutionary paradigm-shift that modernizes standard biomedical prenatal and postpartum care, through the WHO and IOM-endorsed lens of biopsychosocial practice5. Even more is yoga, when informed by rehabilitative science, can advance the creative dialogue of rehabilitation and yoga practice, paving the way for yoga to become an innovative best-care practice in prenatal and postpartum rehabilitative care.
Prenatal yogic medicine can be used in childbirth education and coaching, as well as postpartum care, and has been shown to improve labor and delivery outcomes, affect genetic transcription and expression, improve HPA Axis regulation and gut microbiome colonization, and can also well address pre-existing or perpetuating issues such as chronic pain, depression, anxiety, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and weight management. All of these comorbid conditions have a vital role in determining rehabilitation outcomes and should be addressed in regular care. However, for example, in comorbid conditions like pelvic pain and depression, pharmacological side effects, and the stigma of seeking mental health treatment can severely diminish adherence to biomedical interventions6. As a mind-body intervention, yoga during pregnancy can increase birth weight, shorten labor, decrease pre-term birth, decrease instrument-assisted birth, reduce perceived pain, stress, anxiety sleep disturbances, and general pregnancy-related discomfort and quality of life physical domains7,8. Yoga offers an optimal evidence-based strategy that can positively affect the underlying neuroendocrine issues that ultimately dictate therapeutic outcomes.
The WHO recommends that postpartum checkups include screening for back pain, incontinence, hemorrhoids, constipation, fatigue, breast pain, perineal pain, depression, painful intercourse, headaches, bowel problems, and dizziness or fainting. The yogic medicine paradigm can influence all of these conditions through systems-based intervention.
A combination of didactic lecture and interactive lab formats, including differential diagnosis and general prenatal and postpartum biopsychosocial screening will prepare the clinician to immediately apply the medical therapeutic yoga paradigm of practice. The 2-day course will also include business practice discussion and technical support for developing your new platform and clinical specialty niche in medical therapeutic yoga practice.

Contact Hours: 16Description:
Maternal care can and must improve in America. Current standards of practice have been cited as a “human rights failure.”1 We can deduce, then, that the current biomedical model is not meeting the needs of mothers or their babies.Patient satisfaction in pregnancy and birth also suffers, with stories of birth trauma, whether physical or emotional, being unfortunately all too common. With a skyrocketing C-section rate at 33% in the US, and more than 50% in Brazil, far above the World Health Organization’s recommended 10% (for reducing mortality), prenatal care is in a full-blown international crisis.
However, contemplative science has long been a compassionate, culturally sensitive method for improving mindfulness and all-health outcomes. And the use of contemplative science, specifically yoga, in prenatal health has enormous potential and a growing evidence-base that can ameliorate this crisis.
Yoga offers an evolutionary paradigm-shift that modernizes standard biomedical prenatal and postpartum care, through the WHO and IOM-endorsed lens of biopsychosocial practice.3 Even more is yoga, when informed by rehabilitative science, can advance the creative dialogue of rehabilitation and yoga practice, paving the way for yoga to become an innovative best-care practice in prenatal and postpartum rehabilitative care.
However, for example, in comorbid conditions like pelvic pain and depression, pharmacological side effects, and the stigma of seeking mental health treatment can severely diminish adherence to biomedical interventions.4
As a mind-body intervention, yoga during pregnancy can increase birth weight, shorten labor, decrease pre-term birth, decrease instrument-assisted birth, reduce perceived pain, stress, anxiety sleep disturbances, and general pregnancy-related discomfort and quality of life physical domains.5-6 Yoga offers an optimal evidence-based strategy that can positively affect the underlying neuroendocrine issues that ultimately dictate therapeutic outcomes.
This course prepares the clinician to handle standard biomedical prenatal care for the pregnant patient as well as biopsychosocial care. Through a didactic and energizing lecture emphasizing interactive labs, this course will prepare the clinician to apply yoga as medicine through the WHO-endorsed biopsychosocial lens of assessment for first, second, and early third trimesters of pregnancy.
Algorithms for prenatal yoga rehab will also be included to streamline and direct clinical decision-making. The course addresses both low and high-risk pregnancy mind/body management, literature review and real time case analysis for differential diagnosis in both individual and group-based therapy. The 2-day course will also include business practice discussion and technical support for developing your new platform and clinical specialty niche in medical therapeutic yoga practice.
